Subcommittee Mission
The Homeless Subcommittee advocates for the rights of those who are homeless in South Pinellas County. Our members continue to be on the front line of homeless issues with outreach, political action, and support to local agencies.
We are always looking for volunteers. Whether you want to donate your money or your time we would love to hear from you. Please contact Reggie Craig, the chair of our subcommittee, at homeless@uustpete.org, or call the church office, tel: (727) 898-3294
Outreach
Over the past year, we have offered panel discussions and films featuring local and national advocates for the rights of homeless people. Both our minister and president have appeared on local TV to further the dialog on homelessness. During the coming year we will expand our outreach and work with other faith based groups in downtown St. Petersburg to create a downtown emergency cold night shelter. In the coming year, we hope to have stronger political participation and expand our outreach.
Advocacy
We hold a pancake breakfast to raise funds for our committee. There is a suggested $4 donation – please see the church calendar for the next upcoming breakfast! Our committee has supplied countless vanloads of clothing, blankets, food, and hygiene items to ASAP Homeless Services this past year. We also serve brunch at ASAP twice a year. We serve supper to homeless people twice a month at Beacon House Men’s Shelter. Please contact Pat Yochim through the church’s main office number if you would like to help.
